PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
-Lead carpenter will require a minimum of 10 years experience working in a mill-shop atmosphere as well as 5 years minimum experience in a lead or supervisory role.
-Any carpentry trade school or training program background is a plus but not required.
-CNC operation / programming is a plus.

BASIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Lead Carpenter’s purpose is to lead the Custom Millwork Department in developing and maintaining a high standard of quality products and services. Maintain or exceed the production lead-times by creating efficiencies while keeping the material and labor cost balanced. Must have the ability to fabricate Custom Millwork pieces with little or no drawings. Working closely with Design and Sales in calculating cost evaluations for projects.

Primary Responsibilities:
• Maintains safety standards and holds safety meetings.
• Monitors and trains personnel on proper construction techniques.
• Monitors and trains personnel on proper usage of all Carpentry tools.
• Monitors yard and shop floor space allocations for all Carpentry projects.
• Works closely with all managers and leads to ensure that projects move smoothly through Carpentry.
• Assists the Production Managers in providing crew as required on a per project basis and acts as a “stand in” when needed.
• Directly involved in running the floor, i.e. space allocation, safety, material usage and all things that pertain to an efficient operation within the carpentry discipline. 


Variable Responsibilities:
• May be required to lead projects as needed
• Is responsible (with operations manager) for metal safety standards, records and related issues.
 

Additional:
• Variable responsibilities are contingent on work load with primary responsibilities and company current needs.

• Coordinate and communicate project scope to internal team
• Create and implement project timeline reflecting critical milestone dates
• Provide timely updates to client through detailed correspondence and communication
• Assist with prioritizing Drafting and Engineering schedules

• Submit shop drawings for approval
• Review all changes reflected in redlined shop drawings and provide change orders where applicable

• Facilitate needed shipping via common carrier or non-dedicated truck
• Address punch list items
• Point person for any future warranty items
• Customer advocate within company to continuously raise customer issues to resolve
• Inform internal departments when they are falling behind schedule
